Introduction
Indonesian as a mega-diversity country has diverse microorganisms, including lactic acid bacteria. These bacteria which have varied physiological functions have been isolated and investigated associated with human life. The utilization of lactic acid bacteria expand into many areas of food, health, and industries. Lactic acid bacteria play many roles in traditional Indonesian fermented foods such as tape, kecap, and asinan. Many species and strains of lactic acid bacteria have been suggested to have many beneficial effects on the health of the digestive tract of humans.
Objective of this seminar and workshop are:
- To up date information related to the potency of indigenous microorganism in food, health and industry
- To disseminate research in microorganism, particularly lactic acid bacteria
- “case study” related to diarrhea and probiotic treatment
- To improve management of Culture Collection in Indonesia
