Introduction
It is well known that several researches in area of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) have been conducted in isolation and characterization of various indigenous microorganism linked to food fermentation which provide probiotic and prebiotic ability as well as additional synergistic suppression and inhibition for spoilage and pathogenic microorganism. Many species and strain of LAB have been suggested to provide beneficial effects of the gastrointestinal tract of human and animal. However, the most challenging effort is not only introduction the potential of indigenous microorganism but how to apply the research output into community. Therefore, the selection of the topic conference entitled Better Life with Lactic Acid Bacteria: Exploring Novel Functions of Lactic Acid Bacteria is one of the efforts to solve those challenges. Emphasizing of the research dissemination into society through strengthen the research networking among scientist, government, business society, and community is the main objective in this 3rd International Conference of Indonesian Society for Lactic Acid Bacteria (IC-ISLAB).
