University Center of Excellence for Research and Application on Integrated Probiotic Industry is a research center which is located at Center for Food and Nutrition Studies (CFNS) in Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). This university center of excellence is established to support the three pillars of higher education, particularly to carry out research, education, and community service associated with probiotics.
UGM’s probiotic researchers have been collected the indigenous probiotic cultures of Indonesia. The indigenous probiotics are potential and proved to have beneficial effects on health. The probiotic isolates are stored in the Food and Nutrition Culture Collection (FNCC) in CFNS UGM together with other 400 isolates.
This university center of excellence is established to facilitate probiotic researchers to improve their knowledge and skills; to build a big data system which provides important information regarding probiotic application in industry; to build communication and networking with industry and Small and Medium-sized Enterprise (SMEs) to support innovation and downstream of the probiotic-based products; and to give contribution to the community through various research and community services.
